Application – Importance of Medical History

Posted on: Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

One of the most important steps of applying for disability insurance is full disclosure of medical history. This week an application from a client of ours was declined due to their medical history. Since the medical history was not not disclosed on the application, we are unable to know the complete reason for the decline. This makes it impossible for our office to look into different insurance carriers that may be more suited for the individual. Insurance carriers will not release medical information to our office unless it is revealed on the application. For this reason , it is beneficial to all who would like to apply for disability insurance to fully disclose all medical history.

Receiving a Quote on Disability Income Insurance

Posted on: Monday, March 23rd, 2009

Insurance policies are a simply an inherent part of adulthood; a necessity that comes along with having a family. We carry medical insurance to protect our health with doctors’ visits, access to specialists, and emergency care and hospital stays should they be required; we carry auto insurance to protect our interests in the event of a motor vehicle accident; and we carry life insurance to provide financial protection for our families in the event of our death. But another insurance policy that is just as important as everything else that we carry is disability income insurance.

In the event that we suffer an injury that prevents us from returning to work – either temporarily or permanently – we are vulnerable to a significant loss of income. Most modern households rely upon two incomes to survive and most do so check to check and with no room for error. A loss of one income is unimaginable to most people; disability insurance policies offer a sense of protection against this vulnerability.

The amount of a disability income insurance plan is determined by the policyholder’s income; and how much they would need on a monthly basis to keep their household running if they were to suddenly lose their paycheck. Policyholders balance the amount they would need with the amount that they can afford to pay in disability insurance premiums; reputable disability insurance companies are able to offer quotes to this effect.

Luckily, with the continuous popularity of the Internet, consumers have access to all the products and services they could ever want with just the click of a few keyboard buttons – and insurance quotes are no exception. Those interested in learning more about disability insurance plans and the premium amounts they can expect to pay can fill out applications online and receive quotes quickly and conveniently.

The Pros and Cons of Company Provided Disability Insurance Plans

Posted on: Monday, March 9th, 2009

When most people think of disability insurance they think of the disability plans that they are offered through their jobs. While this type of disability insurance is certainly beneficial in that it provides at least some semblance of protection should the employee become ill or injured, these disability insurance plans often have significant shortcomings that policyholders should examine closely. Such is the reason that so many people – even with company disability insurance plans in place – choose to protect themselves in a more comprehensive manner through individual disability insurance.

With company disability insurance plans employees are afforded the benefit of affordability. In some cases, employees are even given a small amount of disability income insurance at no charge. The problem is that the company may only offer disability insurance plans wherein the definition of disability is vague and will often only provide coverage if the policyholder is unable to complete any occupation following their illness or injury.

The reason that many people seek out individual disability insurance is because they can write the policy so that it makes sense for their own personal situation. Individual disability income insurance policies are offered through a variety of programs that will suit the policyholder in terms of providing coverage for longer periods of time and with broader definitions of disability. There are even those disability insurance policies that will continue to cover the policyholder if they are unable to continue their regular job due to illness or injury but are able to earn a wage doing another kind of job in another industry.

Disability insurance is meant to protect families in the case of a loss of wages due to injury or illness. But without examining the details of the disability insurance policy policyholders are left vulnerable to possible stipulations that will affect the policy payment, the length of time they are covered, and the conditions under which they are covered.
